HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS AFTER A BREAST AUGMENTATION?

The first 5 days are generally uncomfortable and a decent pain medication is required. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities of daily living, including driving, after 2 weeks. Strenuous activities such as exercise should be delayed for up to 6 weeks.

WILL I LOSE SENSATION IN MY NIPPLES AFTER A BREAST AUGMENTATION?

Some change in nipple or breast sensation is fairly common immediately after surgery. It is also not uncommon to have increased sensation after the procedure, which may be uncomfortable. After several weeks to months, most patients have normal sensation. Permanent loss of nipple and skin sensation is very rare.

ARE THERE ANY SITUATIONS WHERE YOU WOULD ADVISE A PATIENT AGAINST A BREAST REDUCTION?

Breast reduction is major surgery, so anyone who wishes to undergo this surgery needs to be in good health. Any major medical conditions, especially if they are untreated, or if they are not being optimally managed, disqualifies such a patient for the surgery.

DO BREAST REDUCTIONS AFFECT BREAST MILK PRODUCTION?

They may. This is because some tissue is removed during the procedure which may hinder your ability to produce breast milk. This is not to say that breast feeding is impossible after a reduction. There is still a chance that you may be able to breast feed after a breast reduction.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS?

During recovery we suggest that you do not drive for at least 2 weeks after the operation. We also restrict my patients from exercise for at least the first 6 weeks. Most patients are relatively pain free and able to resume activities of daily living after 2 weeks.

IS A BREAST REDUCTION PERMANENT?

Yes. Breast reduction surgery should be considered permanent. Although excessive weight gain may reverse your results. Likewise, in the event of a pregnancy, the tissues swell or take on fluid and store milk.

ARE COSMETIC SURGEONS THE SAME AS PLASTIC SURGEONS?

No, cosmetic surgeons are the General cosmetic doctors and plastic surgeons are specialists. The Plastic surgeons have done extra post-graduate training above the cosmetic surgeons.
