Using plastic surgery to help achieve your desired look is a decision which shouldn’t be undertaken lightly. When you visit a specialist for your cosmetic surgical needs, you can rest assured you are giving yourself the best chance for a successful outcome.
For clients who are looking to have plastic or reconstructive surgery for medical reasons, you may find some of the procedure is covered by Medicare. An example of this could be if you needed a breast reduction because of significant neck and back pain. Depending on your reason for receiving surgery, Medicare and health funds may provide some rebate.
The only way to be certain that Medicare could cover your surgery is to contact them. They will let you know what the criteria are and how to meet it. However, it is important to keep in mind this is only for surgeries which are deemed medically necessary. Medicare will not cover cosmetic surgery—and it’s unlikely a health fund would cover cosmetic surgery either.
All surgical procedures carry risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
