Skin cancer surgery from Mr Weymouth in Melbourne

Skin cancer affects more Australians than any other cancer. Eighty percent of cancer cases diagnosed are some form of skin cancer. In Victoria alone, over 350 people die a year from skin cancer.¹ Cancer cells develop when damaged cells uncontrollably divide and multiply forming a tumour mass.

Signs you might have skin cancer

There are a number of signs that may be indicators of skin cancer. Five of those signs are:

  1. New moles
  2. An outline of a mole which becomes notched
  3. Moles which increase in size
  4. A spot that is varied in colour or that changes from brown to black
  5. A spot which develops a lump within it or becomes raised

This is by no means a comprehensive list, and it is recommended you visit your GP if you are worried about any spots or moles that seem unusual.

Surgical methods for skin cancer removal

Mr Weymouth offers a number of different treatment options for skin cancer. The treatment used depends on:

  • the type of skin cancer
  • severity
  • location
  • your age
  • health status
  • other medical conditions
  • medication

Mr Weymouth offers 3 methods to remove tumour mass:

  1. Surgical excision: As the name suggests, this involves removing the entire tumour mass.
  2. Cryosurgery: Liquid nitrogen is applied to the area to freeze and kill abnormal cancer cells
  3. Curettage and desiccation: Curettage is when the cancer mass is scooped out with an instrument called a curette. After this desiccation is carried out by applying an electric current to control bleeding and kill any remaining cancer cells.
